Come What May: On Respect and Equality.
At its core, the ongoing struggle for equality is a fight against discrimination and stereotyping. This struggle does not just belong to a self-selected few. This struggle belongs to ALL OF US, regardless of what we are, who we love, or what we believe in.
The transgendered woman longs for recognition— only to be treated as a mere outcast. The frat man abhors violence and wants to serve— only to be marked as “violent” all the same. The political party envisions elections that are based on political platforms and advocacies— only to face personality-based issues. And, the young woman fights for equality her entire life— only to have her sincerity put in doubt by a single gaffe.
To be treated with the utmost respect and to be freed from the tyranny of labels is a wish we all share. Shamefully, as desperate measures to gain political ground, some choose to exploit the discriminated and claim to be the sole champion of their rights.
Enough is enough.
Iskolar-Aktibista, it is high time that we get the respect that we ALL deserve.
